Preemie Quilts

Preemie Quilts

Quilts, flannel burp cloths, and knit hats are made for premature babies in the neonatal intensive care units (NICU) at Evergreen Hospital, University of Washington Medical Center, Valley Medical Center, Swedish Hospital, and Auburn Medical Center.

The Preemie Project is QA’s longest running charity project. Since 1986, more than 17,400 preemie quilts have been provided. Over 1300 were delivered in 2017.

Preemie quilts measure 24 inches x 30 inches (no smaller please). Flannel backing is used, with minimal quilting. No batting, no metallic fabric or fibers, no tying.

Burp cloths measure at least 9 inches x 13 inches, and are made by sewing two pieces of flannel, right sides together, turning and top stitching.

Quilted Comforts for Our Elderly

Nursing Home Quilts

QA members and friends make quilts to provide comfort to elderly persons residing in Seattle area nursing homes.

Since 2007, 1560 quilts have been provided. More than 200 quilts were delivered in 2017.

Nursing Home quilts measure approximately 36 inches x 48 inches.

 

Evergreen Hospice Project

Hospice Quilts

Quilts, fleece blankets, fleece mittens, and catheter bag covers are made for patients of Evergreen Hospice.

Since 2007, over 370 quilts, 290 fleece blankets, 240 pairs of fleece mittens, and 710 catheter bag covers have been provided. 90 quilts, 35 fleece blankets, 22 pairs of fleece mittens, and 75 catheter bag covers were delivered in 2017.

Quilts for Evergreen Hospice measure from 36 inches x 48 inches to 65 inches x 88 inches (lap quilts up to twin-sized quilts).

Operation Baby Love

Nursing Home Quilts

Baby quilts are made for the 17th Field Artillery Brigade at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Since 2006, over 590 baby quilts have been provided. 140 quilts were delivered in 2017.

Baby quilts measure approximately 40 inches x 40 inches. Batting is used in these baby quilts, and flannel backing is preferred. No metallic fabric.

 

Christmas Stocking Project

Christmas Stockings

Christmas stockings are made and donated to Atlantic Street Center and Children’s Hospital, to help bring holiday cheer to children in our community. A charity workshop is held each year at our August guild meeting, devoted to the cutting and sewing of Christmas stockings.

Since 2001, over 17,500 stockings have been provided. 1450 were delivered in 2017.

Pillowcases for Fisher House

Pillowcases

Pillowcases are made to help provide comfort to military families at Fisher House, Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Fisher House provides a home away from home for military members and their families while they receive medical care at Madigan Army Medical Center.

Since the start of this project, over 2380 pillowcases have been provided. More than 240 pillowcases were made in 2017.
