QUILT SHOW 2008 POLICIES |
A.
Who is Eligible:
Entries for voting will
be accepted from members of Quilters Anonymous only.
Previous members must have paid their renewal dues by
Sept. 15, 2007, so their names are in the 2006-2007 roster,
and must have contributed a minimum of 4 hours effort to the
2007 quilt show.
Members who joined for the first time after March 15th
2007 and who have paid their dues by September 15th
2007 are eligible to enter the show and are exempt from the
4-hour requirement.
New members (not having been a member before) who
have paid their dues prior to December 31, 2007 may enter
the quilt show and are exempt from the 4-hour requirement.
Entrants in the Youth Quilter category must be
affiliated with or related to a QA member.
Special Display entries may be made by individuals
not meeting these criteria at the discretion of the Show
Committee Chairs.
B.
What is Eligible:
Entries in voting
categories must have been made with the participation of a
QA member in good standing according to the Standing Rules.
Entries in Special Displays must meet criteria
established and published for that display or must have been
approved for inclusion by the Show Committee Chairs.
C.
Entry Limits:
Members may enter up to
three quilts in the 20 categories listed in the previous
section (19 voting categories and the non-voting Showcase).
Members may enter one additional “freebie” entry in
each of the following three voting categories: Miniature,
Accessory/3-D, and Wearable.
Entries in the Gifts of Soft Comfort special display,
the Membership Challenge, and other by-invitation or
pre-arranged Special Displays (such as previous year’s
winners) do not count against the three-entry limit.
D.
Challenge Entries:
Each member may enter 1
item in the Membership Challenge category. Membership
Challenge entries must be made and entered individually by
one member according to the rules established by the
Challenge Committee for the Quilt Show 2008 and published in
the November 2007
Newsletter.
E.
Special Display Entries:
Special Display and
Showcase are not voting categories and receive no ribbons.
Guidelines for the Gifts of Soft Comfort special
display are listed in the November2007 Newsletter.
Other Special Displays have been planned by the Show
Committee and can be suggested by the membership.
Special Display entries are limited only by the space
available.
F.
Categories:
Entry categories for the
show are published in the Quilt Show Details elsewhere in
this Roster. To
achieve an equitable and manageable number of entries within
each category, the Show Committee reserves the right to
divide large categories into voting sub-groups based on size
once all registration forms have been received.
G.
Registration:
Each entry requires its
own registration form – one item per form.
Each “Special Display” entry must also be entered on
its own registration form unless an exception is arranged
with the Show Committee.
Registration can be done by mail or online.
Registration forms are available in the November 2007
Newsletter or online on the guild’s web page
(www.quiltersanonymous.org).
H.
Registration Deadline:
Completed registration
forms must be postmarked no later than Thursday, January 10,
2008, online registration must be electronically transmitted
no later than midnight on Tuesday, January 15, 2008.
Members are responsible for verifying their entries,
listed on the QA website January 21 – 25, 2008, and any
changes that are needed must be submitted by midnight on
January 25th.
I.
Quilt Show Capacity:
It is our intention to
have space to display every quilt that is registered and to
include all special display items as registered and planned,
however there is a limit to the space available.
In the event the Layout Chair determines there are
more quilts than can be adequately hung in the space
available, the Show Committee reserves the right to request
the withdrawal of entries.
Our first efforts will be focused on compressing the
special displays and all hanging spaces for voting
categories. If
absolutely necessary, we will work in reverse order based on
date/time of registration and ask members who have
registered three or more quilts to choose one to withdraw.
This process will proceed until a feasible layout can
be achieved.
J.
Hanging Sleeve Requirement:
All quilts are to
have a hanging sleeve attached and must not exceed 90” in
hanging length unless entered in the Large category.
Quilts 90” in length or larger may be entered in the
Large category and hung full-length (with sleeve at the top
edge of the quilt) or they may be entered in another
category and hung from a sleeve that is attached at the
90”mark.
K.
Large
Quilt Entry Limits: The Show
Committee reserves the right to place an upper limit on the
number of entries in the Large category, based on space and
equipment limitations.
Large quilt entries may be closed before the
registration deadline in which case quilts may be entered in
an alternate category and hung at a maximum length of 90”.
L.
Awards:
Ribbons will be awarded
to QA members according to the results of voting as follows.
Youth entrants sponsored by a QA member are also
eligible for awards. Voting by the visiting public will
determine the awarding of 1st, 2nd, 3rd
Place and Honorable Mention ribbons as described in the 2007
Quilt Show Details.
Because we want, where possible, to recognize the
contributions of all our participating members, we will
award two ribbons for all Duet category winners in which
both makers are QA members in good standing.
In addition to the category winners, voting by the
viewing public will determine a Viewer’s Choice award.
Voting by the QA membership will determine three additional
awards: Best Hand Appliqué, Best Hand Quilting, and Best
Machine Quilting as well as winners in the Membership
Challenge.
M.
Definitions:
1. Solo:
The item must be made entirely by a single QA member,
including all parts of the top, quilting, and finishing.
2. Duet:
The item has been made by no more than 2 people, one
of whom must be the QA member entering the item in the Show.
The “making” of the item includes any phase of design,
construction, quilting or finishing. This includes quilts
professionally quilted.
3. Group:
Three or more people have made the item, of which one must
be the QA member who is entering the quilt and who has
contributed a good percentage of the work toward the
completion of the item. This contribution can include
design, directions, assembling, quilting, or finishing the
quilt; a statement must be submitted with the registration
identifying the member’s participation.
4.
Large: A quilt with a
hanging length of more than 90” that has a hanging sleeve
attached at the edge and will
