Featured Artists ~ David & Barbara Rincon

David and Barbara Rincon took a beginning quilt-making class from Nancyann Twelker in the Winter of 1991, and in the Spring of 1992, made their first quilt.  David had gone to the class as an enthusiastic neophyte, while Barbara went because David told her he couldn't take a class with "all those women" without her - a dubious beginning for what became a burning love for both.  Barbara found, happily, that quilt making was not like sewing clothing.  David, who was already in love with quilts, found that none of "those women" was going to bite him, and that he definitely could take a class without Barbara.  They both found a wealth of friendship and camaraderie with other quilters.

The Rincons completed about 25 to 30 queen and king-sized quilts a year during the first three years of their quilt making endeavors.  At that point, they decided to purchase a long-arm quilting machine.  Two factors led to this decision:  the cost of having others machine-quilt for them and the fact that, at that time, they couldn't find anyone to custom-quilt for them.  This new venture also proved to be a happy collaboration.  Barbara loved designing, and David loved the technical aspect of translating design to a quilt.

Quilting has proved to be endlessly fascinating to both David and Barbara and they hope to be quilting into their nineties and beyond.
