Savannah
Sunset
by Karen Pederson - 1st Place |
 |
|
Ethnic fabrics
have attracted me and this sunset panel was
perfect for an African-inspired quilt.
Embellishments include raw-edged appliqué, beads
and buttons to emphasize the complexity and
richness of the African Theme. |

Really Red Flowers
by Karen Pederson - 2nd Place |
 |
|
An original
design, this quilt was started in a Ruth McDowell
class the week before 9/11 and not finished until
nearly a year later. When I could return to
it, I had great fun designing it from a picture of
Skagit Valley tulips and choosing fabrics to
highlight the vibrancy of the flowers. |

Spiral Lone Star
by Susan Burker - 3rd Place |
 |
|
Inspired by
Jan Krentz's variations on the traditional Lone
Star in Lone Star Quilts and Beyond.
I used a progression of fabrics from the center
out. Each time the color shifted to the next
star point, one color went darker and one fabric
changed. Quilted on my Bernina, with a sun
and its rays emerging from the lone star. |
