Dresden Plate
by Donna White - 1st Place |
 |
| This quilt
does not have any duplicate fabrics. I began
this quilt in 1994 and got cancer so could
not finish until now. Needle and I quilt
group helped make some of the blocks. In
this quilt I have most of my fabric stash that I
collected 10 years ago. My stash has grown
more since then. Quilted by Louise
McAllister. |

This is a
group quilt, my first top done because the Busy
Bee guild helped me with blocks and I was on a
time limit. It took me another 4 1/2 years
to finish quilting. It is quilted on a 1"
diagonal grid on the whole quilt. The back
is intended to look like a whole cloth quilt.
Quilted by Busy Bee Guild (70 hours) and Jo Bond
9450 hours). |

Happy Retirement, Ralph

My husband,
Ralph, retired last summer from the US Army after
29 years. He was the District Commander,
Seattle District, Crops of Engineers.
Instead of a briefcase as a retirement gift, his
office and I decided on this quilt. The red
castle (block pattern by Joanne Gray, Canton, MI)
is the insignia of the Corps of Engineers.
Center picture; our family going through the
Ballard Locks, where we lived for three years.
Kirk Hilsabeck drew it. Each border fabric
represents a city special to Ralph. Finally,
the backing fabric is a Hawaiian print because
Ralph served previously as the District Commander,
Honolulu District, Corps of Engineers. Cindy
Gilbrough quilted it and helped me with design. |
