Featured Artists ~ Lois Nay

Our featured artist, Everett resident Lois Nay, displays an amazing range of quilting interests and scope of skills in the collection of her beautiful quilts.
Lois took her first quilt class in 1981 in Lakeland, Florida, where her husband had just taken on a new job.  Trying to stay in out of the Florida heat and looking for something to occupy her time while their new home was being built, she one day happened to wander into the only quilting and fabric store in the town.

Lois was immediately intrigued by all the pretty quilts and gorgeous fabrics.  Deciding that she, too, could do this, she signed up for that first class.  The rest, as they say is history....after making one quilt (which she calls "rather crude"), Lois was hooked.

Moving to Marysville, Washington in 1991, Lois quickly sought out the local quilting community.  And, she says, her introduction to the many wonderful quilters, quilt shops, teachers and artists in this area was quite an eye-opener.  She promptly joined Quilters Anonymous and Camano Island Quilters, and remains active in both groups.

"I'll be forever grateful for the things I have learned and the friendships I've made through the quilting community in the Pacific Northwest", she says. Lois has taken many quilting classes, with great enthusiasm, and is always among the first to try out new techniques, new materials, new machines...and new gadgets: "I have to keep up, you know!" she laughs.

Lois has also studied with some of the most respected quilt artists on the national scene.   A passionate and prolific quilter, Lois found it a tough task to winnow down her collection to the representative group represented here.  Though she professes not to create original designs, her originality in the way of her excellent craftsmanship, her artistry and her superb eye for color and design is shown clearly in this vibrant presentation...her spirit radiates from her works.
