#112 ~ Midnight Stroll in
Baltimore by Linda Simmons - 1st Place |

Using appliqué designs by Elly Sienkiewicz, I
wanted to do a quilt with black background.
Caution: dark fabric is hard on the eyes if
appliqué is the technique. Appliqué brings joy
to my heart as the design appears and comes of
life. The baskets were tedious but ¼-inch bias
tape trimmed down to 1/8-inch fit the scale
perfectly. Hand-pieced. Hand-appliquéd.
Hand-quilted.

This quilt began as a class project. When class
was cancelled at block 2, I finished on my own.
The name is "Lemonade" because that is what you
make with lemons (problems). I worked through
so many problems (actually learning experiences)
and finished in 3 years. Machine-pieced.
Hand-appliquéd. Hand-quilted. Lori Smith's
pattern. |

#120 ~ Alaska by Maryann

The small blocks, "Kuspuk Kate and Parka Pete,"
were designed by Jean Campbell of Anchorage. I
picked them up over several years. The "Alaska
Kuspuk Kids Blanket Toss" was designed and sold
by Willow-She-Mon-Sun Homemakers of Willow,
Alaska. This quilt was fun to make, and I have
a half dozen rejected kids hanging around my
sewing room. Machine-pieced. Hand-appliquéd.
Hand-quilted. |

Morning Call - HM |

|
When I visit my daughter, on our drives to town
we pass a house that often has roosters and
chickens in the yard. We always look for them
because they are so beautiful, and one day we
even stopped and took pictures. On my way back
home to Terry, Montana, I stopped at a quilt
shop in Billings, and there on the wall was the
"Radical Roosters" quilt. I fell in love at
once with the roosters and bought all the
patterns. I also knew it was my "Moring Call"
quilt. Machine-pieced. Machine-appliquéd.
Machine-quilted. "Radical Roosters" by Florine
Johnson. |
