#2617 ~ A Compass in the Storm by Georgia Pierce - 1st Place

The background is the traditional Storm at Sea block done in black and white.  The Mariner's Compass was pieced and appliquéd.  The inner border is paper pieced and the outer border is reverse appliquéd.  This is my first experiment with black and white and some color.  Machine-pieced.  Hand-appliquéd.  Machine-quilted.

#2612 ~ Butterflies and Flowers by Joan Dawson - 2nd Place

This pattern came from the Piece o' Cake book Appliqué Delights.  I changed the center flowers to a butterfly and added butterflies to the four corners.  Machine-pieced.  Hand-appliquéd.  Hand- and machine-quilted.

#2619 ~ Super Nova by Kathi DeJong - 3rd Place

I love feathered stars and  wanted to make a BIG one! I pieced the star points using the same technique as a kaleidoscope- style quilt.  The border is machine appliquéd and circle accents are hand appliquéd.  The name "Super Nova" was courtesy of my husband.  Machine-pieced.  Hand- and machine-appliquéd.  Machine-quilted.

These fun kittens are from an old pattern.  Machine-pieced.  Hand-appliquéd.  Hand-quilted.
