Workshop: Mini Mid-Mod Quilts
These charming little quilts are inspired by Mid-Century Modern design, and are a great skill-building project to learn a number of quilting techniques. We will start with a simple, modern color palette of neutral fabrics with a flash of color. Clean lines combined with simple design give each tiny composition a sophisticated feeling. Since we are working very small, this is a great project for using small scraps and bits of special fabric. Participants will learn the quilt-as-you-go method, and a PDF materials and supplies list will be emailed in advance. Hand stitching adds a sleek, linear element. Finishing techniques will be demonstrated.

Speaker and Topic: Sarah Hibbert, from the UK, will be joining us in person to present her lecture "Measure Once, Cut Twice" on Tuesday evening and "From a Lazy Monday Afternoon to a Published Book!" on Wednesday morning.
Workshop: Free Improv Piecing
This workshop is a relaxed and free-flowing day of freestyle patchwork piecing. This wonderful improvisational technique lets your fabrics tell you exactly where they want to go, taking all the pressure off fabric selection. You'll learn to trust your instincts and work more intuitively, creating beautiful combinations without second-guessing yourself. The secret to achieving beautiful, harmonious results lies in choosing a colour palette with a highlight accent. It's the perfect opportunity to give new life to those fabric scraps from other projects or finally use those gorgeous pieces you've been treasuring for just the right moment.

Workshop: Disintegration
Combine the precision of paper piecing with improvisation to create a disintegrating effect! We will be using the Radial Geese pattern in this class, which will give you the tools to apply a disintegrating effect to other paper piecing patterns in the future. We’ll also discuss other ways of incorporating the idea of disintegration or deconstruction into your quilts. Some paper piecing experience is recommended for this class.

Speaker and Topic: Sandra Bruce will be joining us in person to present her lecture "Material Matrix" on Tuesday evening and "Stitching Words" on Wednesday morning.
Workshop: Material Matrix--this is a 2 day workshop on both Thursday Oct 15th and Oct 16th
My technique, "Material Matrix", is inspired by the painter, Chuck Close. It involves using a gridded photograph and interpreting each 2-inch square into fabric, using piecing to achieve the effect. My lecture, "Material Matrix and the Paths Taken", is an overview of the evolution of Material Matrix and how it works. In the workshop, in addition to the technique, I teach: what makes a good photo to use, color and value, curved-piecing, and how to grid your own photo. Everyone in the class will work on "Wake Up Cup"
